DEPT_04 — ABOUT
GENETICS
DIVISION
The Genetics Division monitors every colonist's genome for radiation-induced mutations, tracking divergence from baseline Earth human DNA. Mars's thin magnetic field and proximity to solar particle events expose the population to roughly 40× the radiation of Earth surface life — making continuous genome surveillance a survival necessity, not a luxury.
The division also manages the Genotype Archive: a cryo-preserved library of 8,400 genomes representing the full genetic breadth of humanity, ensuring biological diversity is maintained across generations born under Martian skies.
